Nancy was born in Indiana, U.S.A. For many years now, she has made the Netherlands her home first in Amsterdam and now in Den Haag, where she dedicates her time to her creative work, unless she is away, travelling the world to teach her sought after classes. She is the author of several books and designed countless elegant and timeless patterns. Needless to say, Brioche Knitting is her passion, but she also ventures out to other directions as her latest book Tuck Stitches shows.
7 sense-ible questions for Nancy
1) What are your favourite views, sights or reads such as books, movies or others?I really love reading, listening to audiobooks and podcasts, and movies. Since I travel a lot, I watch a lot of movies on long flights. I don’t really watch or listen to knitting podcasts. Perhaps because there are so many that I feel like I can’t choose between them. I read every night.
2) What are your favourite feels/things to touch?
I like the feel of yarn; yarn that is soft but also yarn that is rough. And of flour. I like to bake but don’t do it as much as I used to when I had kids living at home. I still make scones about once a week.
3) What puts your life in balance?
My family, knitting, and having a routine. Since I am retired from graphic design, I have all the time in the world. I seem to have a routine, after getting up and dressing, I answer emails, pay bills, and try to write patterns. Pattern writing is becoming a chore for me so I have to force myself to do this part. I try and take a walk/be outside for at least an hour a day and I try to clean up some corner of my house. I have tons of yarn, tons of books, tons of papers, tons of stuff left by my two daughters, so I am gradually getting rid of it (but it’s really hard for me).
4) Favourite odours/smells/perfumes?
I really like the smell of something baking; chocolate chip cookies, apple pie, or cinnamom rolls
5) Favourite tastes/flavours/food?
I love pasta. I really like curries, sushi, and Italian food.
6) Favourite sounds such as music or others?
I like folk ballads, bluegrass Irish fiddle, and classical music.
7) Favourite quote
"Mirror, mirror, on the wall, I am my mother after all." — Anonymous
"Respect copyright, encourage creativity." — Anonymous
